Electoral System
The 543 elected MPs will be elected from single-member constituencies using first-past-the-post voting. The President of India nominates an additional two members from the Anglo-Indian community if he believes the community is under-represented.
Eligible voters must be Indian citizens, 18 or older, an ordinary resident of the polling area of the constituency and possess a valid voter identification card issued by the Election Commission of India. Some people convicted of electoral or other offences are barred from voting.
Previous Elections
The previous general election was held for 16th Lok Sabha in April–May month of 2014 which was won by National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the leadership of the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi by defeating the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by Indian National Congress (Congress). In the previous general election Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gained 282 parliamentary seats and Indian National Congress (Congress) gained 44. Earlier there were speculations that the Modi Government might prepone the 2019 general elections to counter the anti-incumbency factor, however learning from its past blunder of preponing election made by Vajpayee Government it decided to go into election as per the normal schedule [5] which is likely to be announced by Election Commission of India (ECI) in the first week of March 2019.
मालूम हो कि 6 मार्च को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी देश के सभी चीफ सेक्रटरी के साथ समीक्षा बैठक करेंगे। संभव है कि उसी दिन मोदी सरकार के मौजूदा कार्यकाल की अंतिम कैबिनेट मीटिंग और प्रगति समीक्षा बैठक भी होगी। उसके बाद ही 7 से 10 मार्च के बीच चुनाव आयोग द्वारा आम चुनाव की तारीखों का एलान किए जाने की संभावना है।

गौरतलब है कि चुनाव आयोग ने पहले ही सभी राज्यों के चीफ सेक्रेटरी को 28 फरवरी से पहले तबादला प्रक्रिया पूरी कर लेने का निर्देश दिया था। उसके बाद से उत्तर प्रदेश, बिहार समेत कई राज्यों में प्रशासनिक अधिकारियों का तबादला जारी है।
सूत्रों ने बताया कि 10 मार्च से पहले आम चुनाव की तारीख का एलान कर दिया जाएगा। आगामी अप्रैल-मई के महिने में चुनाव होने की संभावना है। 3 जून से पहले नई लोकसभा का भी गठन होना है। ऐसे में चुनाव आयोग की तमाम तकनीकी, आधिकारिक और सुरक्षा व्यवस्था की तैयारियां जोरों पर हैं।

The Last Parliamentary Polls were held in 2014 which were held in 9 phases starting from 7 April 2017 to 12th May 2014 and in which BJP alone crossed the halfway mark on its own by wining 282 seats making and impressive victory and with its alliance the NDA it tally was 336 seats. The Lok Sabha (General) Elections 2019 will be a test of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity against the grand united opposition.
